11/17/2022For those who love the sun, sand, and sports, going to the beach for a quick vacation is a no-brainer option. As the largest country by area in Oceania, Australia is known for its beach holidays. One of Australia’s best beaches which has the whitest sand in Australia, with clear tranquil waters bay characteristics is Lucky Bay Beach.
A Bit of Lucky Bay
The name is quite intriguing; it might get you thinking: “what luck I may find during a vacation there”, or “why is it called Lucky Bay”, “what’s the story of its name”, and so on and so forth.
Behind the name was Captain Matthew Flinders, a British cartographer and navigator. Back in 1802, he was on the mission of circumnavigating an island that would be called Australia. Through the journey, he was caught up in the Recherche Archipelago. Having found his HMS Investigator surrounded by reefs and islands, he decided to look for the main island as shelter from the summer storm at the moment.
Flinders touched down on the island and named it Lucky Bay since the island was the safe anchorage for the ships and the team during the tough time. One of his team, a botanist, known as Robert Brown, took the time to uncover various flora, giving names to unknown species.
The beach is then known as part of the Cape Le Grand National Park and takes a 45-minute drive to the east from Esperance.
With its typical landscape shielding it from heavy wind blows, this place is perfect for a vacation for families with children in the northern part of Australia.
What You Should Be Aware Of
As it is part of the National Park, no pets are allowed to enter the remote area with a paradisiacal view, especially the Lucky Beach Campsite.
Despite being in a secluded area, the roads to Cape Le Grand are accessible for any kind of vehicle. To enter this location, prepare about $15 for the National Park entrance fee.
Visitors are prohibited from lighting bonfires here since the sand has a few close to no impurities. So, be sure to leave the beach without any rubbish left behind.
How To Enjoy Your Time In Lucky Bay
With the scenic view, there are so many things you can do to enjoy your safe escape in Lucky Bay Beach. If you consider a really quick escape, beach driving is the ideal option to enjoy its natural and pure scenery. You may drive a 4WD or any other vehicle type for beach driving.
However, it is good to note that some parts of the beach where wet or dry sand looks harmless, but it is quite dangerous for vehicles. Asking for advice regarding the tides and surface condition from the rangers is a better preventive act. Chances are you’ll meet other visitors walking on foot and wildlife activities happening; ensure to drive slowly and cautiously.
Resting after beach driving, you may want to roll out the tablecloth and open your picnic basket in the picnic area to enjoy the breeze.
While doing so, expect to meet the regulars here, the most famous yet humble guys: Kangaroos! Lucky enough to watch and interact with them while they sunbathe, or else get a glimpse of them roaming during the dawn and dusk.
After picnicking, walking or hiking on coastal trails will be a great choice. You may bump into more wildlife, like seals, and go birdwatching.

The tempting turquoise water is excellent for fishing, surfing, launching small boats, or whale watching between July and October. It invites you immediately for underwater exploration through snorkeling or swimming through its pure beauty.
Since the panoramas are already fancy, bear to have a minimalist camping experience near the beach. You may book in advance a spot in the popular Lucky Bay Campsite or go for a quieter place in Le Grand Peak.
Solar showers and toilets are available, including a wheelchair toilet for those who need them, yet do note that there’s no internet networking except near the French Peak, and you need to prepare your own drinking water for your stay.
Just like how it became a shelter for Flinders during the circumnavigation, this beach is a great shelter for city people from the busyness you have daily in the town.
Hence, enjoying time at Lucky Bay Beach with a minimalist camping night stay, adoring the breeze and a long hike is the luxurious yet safest way to rest your mind.
