How to Get to Kangaroo Island
There are two common ways to get to Kangaroo Island: by the sea and by air. If you go by sea, you must board a ferry at Cape Jervis ferry port. On the other hand, if you go by air, you can have a flight straight to the island from several airports so long as the service is available.
By Sea
The ferry port of Cape Jervis is located at the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. It is approximately 100 kilometers South, or about a two-hour drive, of one of Australia’s major cities, Adelaide.
You can board a SeaLink ferry from there toward an island’s ferry port, about 45 minutes across the sea, in Penneshaw. Being a luxurious ferry, SeaLink can carry passengers comfortably along with their vehicles, from motorbikes to motorhomes.
By Air
If you are in Adelaide and do not feel like taking a two-hour trip to Cape Jervis, plus the additional 45 minutes ferry trip, the Regional Express Airlines or Rex is perfect for you. Rex just needs about 30 minutes to fly from the Adelaide Airport to the other airport on the island.
